We sleep by day; work by night
In the flickering candlelight
Maybe it’s wrong, maybe it’s right
We just make shoes
We just make shoes
Our masters made us a coat so fair
A sop to the blisters and the cuts that we bear
Making them wealthy beyond compare
And still we make shoes
We just make shoes
Hush my children run and play
Your future has been stolen away
They've doubled our quotas; halved our pay
And still we make shoes
We just make shoes
Our masters toast their finest hour
Our allies caved in to the trappings of power
Together they sit in an ivory tower
And still we make shoes
We just make shoes
Same greedy bastards; different name
Vested interests; the name of the game
A class war has started; the poor get the blame
And still we make shoes
We just make shoes
We sleepwalk by day, we’re passive by night
In the flickering candlelight
Our spirit's eroded, gone without fight
And still we make shoes
We just make shoes

If time is money, I envy the rich,
Counting the hours and the days
Second hands and hour hands grind on, relentless
Leaving us all in it's wake
A place where I go, time can't touch me
My mind is clear as the day
I talk with the hawthorn, the bramble ,the elder
We have so much to say..
Time doesn't fly, it creeps up behind you
We can't waste it all on the blues
I'll treasure the wind, me four- legged friend
And the mud on me shoes
I sail on a vessel that once passed this way
Bringing the cargoes to port
My footsteps now follow the ebb and the flow
As the tides rise and fall
I swim with the salmon in the silted water
To where the tide reaches the weir
Running a gauntlet of net and of line
Year after year
Time isn't money, it's the size of the cosmos
Time is a stone in the sea
Time is holding us captive and
One day will set each of us free

A House By The Sea
02:55
|
|||
I was a knave, she was a maiden
In the dying embers of May
A mutual need for ale and fire
Brought us together that day
We fell heavy and oh, we fell hard
Two songbirds on the same tree
On the start of a long and winding road
To a house by the sea
Time moved on and two became four
The children did grow high
We worked and played and we worked some more
Just to keep wood on the fire
But they took with one hand and grabbed with the other
The powers that won't leave us be
When all we want is to be on the road
To a house by the sea
In winter we'll sit by the fireside
In summer we'll walk through the surf
Grateful for each and every grain of sand
On our parcel of earth
I'll be king of the castle; she'll be the queen
We'll call for our fiddlers three
We'll ride a fine carriage on a winding road
To a house by the sea
We'll fish the night tides and sleep by day
There'll be sea bass and whiting for tea
We'll burn a bright light for those out at night
On a rolling sea
When our ship sails with her at my side
There's no place I'd rather be
At the end of a long and winding road
To a house by the sea
To a house by the sea

Favourite Shoes
03:38
|
|||
I just want to be in my favourite shoes, a jumbled up world’s not for me
I trip and I stumble
I easily bruise
So just let me be in my favourite shoes
I wake up in the morning; count up to ten
Get myself ready and count down again
Squaring off circles and straightening lines
Helps me to get through the day
I don’t step on cracks; I don’t eat red food
In a colourful world of black and white rules
There’s safety in numbers and regular times
When you see through these eyes
There’s a spring to my step; a smile on my face
‘Cos inside my head is a magical space
Where the bullies can’t reach me and jump on my toes;
The names they use can’t reach my ears
