Cheshire Cat Smile
03:55

What a year, what a palaver
Beaten, battered and down
Winter, spring, summer merged into one
A hush settled over the town...
We retreated into our music
Into our books and dreams
While outside our walls an invisible foe
Tore us apart at the seams
But when the hooves hit the turf on the Roodee
And the young people turn on the style
When the new world begins
I'll throw back my shoulders
And give it a Cheshire cat smile
I'll enter a real world were people have faces
And lose myself in a crowd
Leave social media's rancour behind
Meander my way into town
With fresh air and daylight as trusty
companions
We'll conquer the age of denial
I'll wave to the boatman stuck in the staircase
And give him a Cheshire cat smile
We'll tread just a little bit lighter
Dance just a little bit more
We'll be kites in the wind of elation
Sing til our voices are sore
Those lines on the ground will just be a memory
Like riots in the bakery aisle
One day we'll look back at all of the madness
And give it a Cheshire cat smile

We hid behind curtains we froze on our screens
Fate shot a flaming arrow into the thatch of our dreams
Spring rode the shirttail of Winter
The sun shines beyond the Cell door
When the end of the world is over
Will it be like it was before?
Passage of time has no meaning, night becomes day
Isolation, torpor, frustration and apathy in the UK
Our muses burst into existence
The madness stays outside the door
When the end of the world is over
Will it be like it was before?
Will the captive bird sing like the free bird
When the blanket is pulled off the cage
Will we go back to being invisible
When the applause and the platitudes fade
Maybe the chickens will come home to roost
Maybe the mouse will roar
When the end of the world is over
Will it be like it was before?

Lazy I
03:32
|
|||
Stop the world from spinning
If only for a day
Reposing and reclining
Is where I'm at today
Slipping under laundered sheets
As time scuttles by
I'm idling my time away
Lazy Me, Lazy I
The sun has got his hat on but
My arse is staying put
I've cancelled all today's events
All my doors are shut
I'm putting off today what I will
Not do for a while
I'm idling my time away
Lazy Me, Lazy I
I'll leave the dust to settle
The grass can grow outside
I'll move from chair to sofa
My daily exercise
I'll build a boat from daydreams
And sail the oceans wide
I'm idling my time away
Lazy Me, Lazy I
Days like this don't come too often
Chances are few
Fate just gave me a nod and a wink
I know what I'm going to do...
I'll leave my phone on silent
I'll switch off all my screens
I'll lay in carefree splendour
With my memories and dreams
Bollocks to my list of jobs
My tap is running dry
I'm idling my time away
Lazy Me, Lazy I
